E-waste, or electronic waste, refers to any discarded electrical or electronic devices and appliances. Examples of e-waste include computers, televisions, mobile phones, refrigerators, air conditioners, and other household appliances. E-waste also includes smaller items such as batteries, light bulbs, and ink cartridges.
E-waste is a growing problem worldwide due to the rapid pace of technological advancements and the resulting obsolescence of electronic devices. E-waste can contain toxic materials such as lead, cadmium, and mercury that can harm human health and the environment if not properly disposed of. The correct disposal of e-waste is important as it can prevent pollution and other environmental damage and also some valuable resources can be recovered from it.
Many countries, including Singapore, have implemented regulations to encourage the proper disposal of e-waste. This usually includes the establishment of collection points where individuals and organizations can drop off their unwanted electronic devices for recycling or proper disposal.
In Singapore, e-waste can be dropped off at designated collection points operated by the National Environment Agency (NEA). These collection points accept a wide range of electronic waste, including computers, televisions, electronic toys, and small household appliances.
